Manhattan, New York Churches & religious sites

Congregation Ramath Orah on West 110th Street was founded in 1942 by Rabbi Robert Serebrenik, chief rabbi of Luxembourg, and 61 Jewish refugees who escaped the Nazi occupation of the Grand Duchy, arriving in New York in June 1941. The congregation’s name is a Hebrew rendering of ‘Luxembourg’ — Ramath Orah, ‘mountain of light.’
