Dubuque County, Iowa Luxembourgish roots Memorials & markers

Urban ‘Red’ Faber was born on a farm near Cascade, in Dubuque County’s Luxembourgish belt, in 1888 — a son of the same settlement world as St. Donatus and Luxemburg, Iowa. He won 254 games for the Chicago White Sox, threw the American League’s last legal spitball, and entered the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. Cascade still celebrates him as its Hall of Famer.
