William Bonifas Fine Arts Center, Escanaba
William ‘Big Bill’ Bonifas emigrated from Luxembourg in 1886 and built one of the Upper Peninsula’s great timber fortunes — the William Bonifas Logging Company supplied Kimberly-Clark for decades. The arts center that bears his name occupies the 1938 St. Joseph auditorium his widow Catherine donated, and it has anchored Escanaba’s cultural life since 1974.
