SUMMARY:Building Bridges Between Luxembourg and Minnesota
DESCRIPTION:What connects a small European country with communities across Minnesota? \nThe answer lies in shared history\, family roots\, migration stories\, friendships\, and a growing network of educational and cultural partnerships. \nIn this presentation\, Marc Zimer will explore how the historic links between Luxembourg and Minnesota can be transformed into new opportunities today. From genealogy and heritage projects to student exchanges\, community partnerships\, and personal encounters\, the talk will show how a shared past can become the foundation for a shared future. \nBuilding bridges is about more than preserving history. It is about bringing people together\, creating lasting friendships\, and inspiring the next generation to continue the connection. \nJoin us to discover the stories that unite Luxembourg and Minnesota—and to explore how each of us can help keep this bridge alive. \nAbout Marc Zimer\nMarc Zimer is a physics teacher\, international exchange coordinator\, and project leader at Lënster Lycée International School in Junglinster\, Luxembourg. He has developed a broad network of educational partnerships between schools\, universities\, heritage organizations\, and communities in Luxembourg and the United States\, particularly in Minnesota\, Wisconsin\, and Iowa. \nMarc serves as Vice President of Roots and Leaves\, a Luxembourg nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening cultural\, educational\, historical\, and personal connections between Luxembourg and Luxembourg-American communities. He is also the Rotary Youth Exchange Officer for the Rotary Clubs of Echternach and Moselle. \nHis work includes organizing student exchanges\, university collaborations\, heritage tours\, genealogy projects\, sister-city initiatives\, and cultural events. He has been closely involved in developing connections with communities such as Winona\, Rollingstone\, New Ulm\, La Crosse\, and other areas with strong Luxembourg heritage. \nMarc believes that the historic relationship between Luxembourg and the American Midwest should not only be preserved\, but renewed through personal encounters\, education\, youth exchanges\, and new community partnerships. His goal is to help younger generations discover their shared heritage and to build lasting bridges between Luxembourg and the United States.
